June is FINALLY here!
June 2022 saw a trip to Wisconsin. I landed in Milwaukee and headed up the Oshkosh area. One of the stops made was to the EAA or Experimental Aircraft Association Museum. The EAA and Pioneer Airport features aircraft, both indoors and outdoors (within hangers). This place totally rocks.
What is EAA and Pioneer Airport?
EAA and Pioneer Airport has a mix of military aircraft, bi-wings, a tri-wing, race aircraft, pleasure aircraft and more! In addition to aircraft, it has a section dedicated to the WASPs or Women Aviators that date back to World War 2. They have one of the original Atom Bomb casings, Uniform components, dioramas that depict specific airfields and many other things. Additionally, they also have a few things you can get your hands on to “play” (you will have to go see what for yourself!). A gift shop and volunteers scattered throughout that can answer questions rounds out some of the features. Prices are reasonable and can be found on their webpage.
A Few things to do while at EAA and Pioneer Airport
While we were visiting EAA and Pioneer Airport, they were offering flights; for the kids, free under age 16, they were going up in a “more modern private airplane”. For the adults… a reasonable fee for a ride in an open cockpit Bi-plane! Unfortunately, time did not allow for us to do a flight.
The "BIG EVENT" or EAA Airshow
In July, towards the end of the month, EAA and Pioneer Airport has the big “fly in”. This is a yearly event that is essentially, an airshow. The interesting aspect of this is that they have shows, but also, everyone that has a plane flys in. It is my understanding that they take a full length runway and divide it in 2 by length, and can land or take-off 2 planes at a time.
